Design Philosophy

Hand in date tomorrow - yessss! :)

Just packing everything up ready and checking it all off the list one final time.

I have 2 design philosophy's because i edited it around easter time and sent it off to make a book, however i then found out it had to be completely different to the other version AND the book wasnt needed anymore - £30 down the drain....

So i re wrote it from scratch however it still pretty much included the same things as its what i like! I am going to hand both copies in otherwise the book would have been really pointless. With the book i planned to add detail on the front on the dust cover by cutting a pattern into it almost like lace to relate to my design style which i wrote about inside but having found out it wasnt needed i dont think i am going to.

Final Design Board

I have decided to do a final design board as i felt that it would be a opportunity to explain a bit more about my garments, almost like a spec sheet.

Outfit completed!

My outfit is finally complete yay! :)

With obvious things I'd change next time, especially the problem I had with the collar at the end on my jacket, with a hem on the outside on part of it, couldn't change this though as the fabric wouldn't be useable if I unpicked it, I have ordered some more fabric so I can try and redo it before but that still hasn't arrived so its not likely il be able to.
It can't be seen unless your close up.

Dress problems

I have now started my dress pattern, having checked the fitting it turns out I have hit another problem, I always thought I wouldn't need a zip as the material I chose had a stretch to it and I preferred it to be without a zip. However when I tried it on the mannequin, altho it did fit, it didn't fit as good as id liked as it was quite tight when taking it off and putting in on at the bust area.
So I am now going to add an invisible zip into my dress as I have enough seam allowance to do so.

Also as whilst it was on the mannequin I felt the back was too baggy so I made it into 2 large pleats rather than 3 pleats, as throughout my toiles I have struggled to get it how I'd like as it changed each time I put it into a pattern even when focusing on the centre back.

I can now see what my outfit looks like together even tho the dress isn't completed.

Updates

Quick update on where im getting to..

I have now completed my Kimono after meeting many different obstacles along the way through stupidness! Although in places it could be seen as incorrect i am happy with the outcome considering how hard the fabric was to work with :)

Pictures to follow in another post once i have pressed in as well as the fabric can be!

I am now moving onto cutting my dress pattern pieces out so i can get on with that! :)

Have double checked previous work for AS2 is complete so now all thats left to do is make the dress and add to my pattern development notes about it and send my design philosophy off!

Getting there..

Worring about the Churchill Module a bit though

Kimono

I have nearly finished making my kimono now, however i have come across a few problems on the way, one being very silly!

I some how managed to make a small hole near my seam whilst overlocking, therefore ive had to take it in a bit to get rid of the hole, i am sort of happy with how it looks considering.
I couldnt re do it as i dont have enough fabric to start again, which is what id have to do as the fabric is very hard to unpick with it being knitted.

As much as i like the fabric it is awful to control! when sewing it pulls away from the needle, because of how fine it is sometimes the thread comes unthreaded. and its very hard to keep the fabric pinned together because of it being holey

This caused another problem with the first sleeve i put in as i had pinned the arm hole seam and side seam together to make sure they flowed when finished, but the machine moved it so it is just off and not as in line as id like but i cant change it now.

Final Boards

Today i have completed my final boards for AS3.
I struggled to get 3 designs with working drawings on one board especially the ones with a 2 piece outfit but got there in the end.

We also have to do a 'collection' board but i wasn't sure if its a collection of the 6 illustrations together or 5 new outfits to go with the outfit i have chose to make so i have done both!

I decided to take the detail in the corner off in the end as i see Stella McCartneys brand as very simple and clean cut therefore i liked how plain my boards are, i may choose to add 'Stella McCartney' on the collection board once printed in the style its wrote on the Look Books.
